Kenilworth Estate in Central Province, Sri Lanka, is well known and well regarded for its strong, full-bodied teas. Interestingly, although the estate is technically in the Nuwara Eliya district, its elevation and production of tea is closer in style to the mid-grown teas from Kandy district.
Ceylon teas are divided into three categories based on their growing elevation: high grown, mid grown, and low grown. This orange pekoe is a prime example of mid grown black teas, which grow roughly between 2,000 and 4,000 feet above sea level.
