| 50g makes 16 cups* | $1.12 per cup |
This beautifully handmade tea boasts such a great number of new buds it practically shimmers with gold. Along with the color, the presence of fine downy hairs clearly shows why this tea has been graded a special production tippy orange pekoe (STOP). Its lighter body and rich but mellow taste is perfect on its own or accompanied with milk and sugar.
Although several teas are referred to as “monkey picked,” in fact, monkeys pick none. This term is usually just part of a fanciful name, or a reference to a traditional belief or legend. In this case, there are parts of Hunan Province where it has been said monkeys should perform the first plucking of tea because their nimble fingers can delicately handle the tender leaves, and because monkeys are viewed as symbols of luck.
